I’m on a Rice Strike!

November 8th, 2007 by melissaksf

no RICe for 3 days in a row~ Feels good, need alot of will power , mental strength and the ability to fight the aroma of those tasty yet fatty food!

No more "Kolo Mee" , Nasi LEmak or fried noodles~

Ru wondering why am i doing this to myself? Simple , FAT! I don wanna be fat, i had a nightmare and actually saw the FAT Version of Melissa! It was SCARrrrY! People were teasing the short and stunted round Mel and pushed me off a cliff where i rolled down wards with the force of gravity and landed ,cushioned by my fatty Bum before i fell flat on my bouncing belly! I think i may be taking this slimming thingy too serious tat i dreamt it into life!

Another reason is cos i wanna be prepared for Ray’s Hair Show happening on the 1st January~ Hopefully, i’ll look slimmer when i walk the runway (if there is one) …juz at least from a distance~ LOL~

So far, in 3 days, i lost 1.5 kgs.

Here’s my diet schedule ;

Breakfast : Wheat cereals/ Wheetabix with Low fat milk and a cup of coffee.

Lunch : Lugumes ( long/short beans, ladies finger, french beans ) , another type of vege and a type of meat, preferably lean ones, as a source of protein. Fruits.

                                         OR

Tapioca, sweet potatoes , raw vegebles like star vege, tapioca leaves ( add a lil hot water to kill the germs ) then "ulam" (dip) it with pickled shrimps or sambal.

                                        OR

Pasta, Spaghetti with Low Fat Cream… as good carbohydrates.

Dinner : Legumes ,lotsa vegetables , soup and lean meat. Fruits.

Note that i consume alot of legumes because they are a good source of protein as well which helps tone the body and once it reaches the stomach fo digestions, it expands, giving the feeling of fullness.

Surprisingly, i don’t feel as much hungry as before. Even with 3 heavy meals , that is!

Plainly, NO RICE! I do not know how long can i manage to survive this way…but im keeping my fingers crossed!

Going to May’s Bodyline to give their promotion a try. They are offering a selection of trials for RM 60…and u get to choose 2 items. I saw it in the papers this morning and on the paper it says, limited to the early birds only. So, i picked up the phone and dialled Kim’s number as she works there…i opted for the Tummy Tuck and the Cellulite Management, whereby they concentrate on the thigh areas. There are other rejuvenating trials like hydrotherapy, bust firming , bust enhancement…go check it out…offer ends on the 16th November!

MEL : Am i too late? Anymore slots for me left? Did anyone call to make reservations yet??

Kim : Errr…actually , ur the 1st one!

* Sweats * That’s how desperate i am to loose my weight!

Putting myself in one’s “selipar”

November 6th, 2007 by melissaksf

I really admire villagers tat live in really rural areas…they maybe poor in terms of money but they are very very rich in terms of simplicity and generosity. They do not fret or pout when facing problems, they survive with problems, and they need this to be independent.

Seeing the way they live, i salute them, they do not shop everyday for dresses, i bet they do not even shop in a few years. Bearing Crops and raring flocks of animals is what they rely on most of the time. They know no make-ups or perfumes. Sometimes, they do not even know what are electronics. The perfection of simplicity is what makes them the strongest of all beings. This reminded me of my training days in the general hospital in Miri. I saw a really young mom, at the age of 13 years old giving birth per vagina. Her baby popped out jus like that! Like a slippery soap slipping outta ur hands~Even When the government nurses were "prompting - PUSH LA!! FASTER!!!! U want ur BABY TO DIE HAAAA??? " , this young mother took no hard feeling and was smiling all the way. She did not even make a single sound, no wailing or squalling…now, she’s what i call perfection of simplicity. Unlike some other young city mothers nowadays, a lil’ bit wanna SUE, a lil’ bit, CRY, a lil’ bit, Purge PAIN KILLERS! We need to learn a lil’ or so from these rural people…maybe their way of surviving is hard , so tat’s why they appreciate every single and tiny thing around them. God Bless their hearts~

Think about it, while we’re enjoying a cup of coffee ( Grande’ summo) for RM 14.50 ( i think ) in Starbucks
C_starb

they are contented enough with a tiny cup of  hot coffee for  RM 0.50….

Setarbak_kopi

And that’s RM 14.00 of a difference……

Food for thought!

Unc_fester

Any Resemblance?  Ahhh….i expected so…haha, Jo, don kill me~

Arrived at the party, nervous, i was afraid that no one would play dress up and i was frantically shy. I am serious!

Yes and i dressed as a nurse~ With a stethoscope hung around my neck, a nurse’s watch hanging from the tip of my white tube top and i held onto a 20cc syringe, modified the needle part with bits of aluminum foil.

The moment i walked in, the entranced scared the shit outta me with hanging creeps and a mannequin dressed as a  ghost…i was pretty impressed with the decos, there were bats and voodoo dolls hanging from the ceiling and there were carved pumpkins with candles inside. Outside Mojo, 3 tombstones were created….The crowd, ooh, the crowd were amazing! I was speechless to see all the people and it was so westernized, i was drifted away from Kuching for a moment there, honestly…

Weekend with a Star to-be~

November 5th, 2007 by melissaksf

There were so many things goin on during the last wkend … i jus gotta blog it out! The man himself, superstar Janson Kam ( soon to release his 1st album in da comin year ) was here for a visit. He arrived on Saturday noon and flew off in the late evening on a Sunday. Being a very honorable host, it was my pleasure to bring him around. I introduced him to my frenz, and he clicked with them in an instant! Well, he always gets his way with the gals anyways. Since there were not much time for any sight-seein around Kuching, the only plan i had for him was to EAT! Definitely no shopping…nuh-uh!

Alright, the 1st destination upon his arrival was to Tao…i chose Tao coz i personally like its antique yet modernized interior design. I LOVE the bright colors added to the surroundings, i feel the air and its aura has got this sort of energy and chi and the feeling of Peace, moreover, the staffs there are really Friendly ( and they speak good english ). While heading there upon coming out from my crib, there were 2 lovey-dovey birdies kissing and twirling about in the middle of the road , say, about 1 feet from the ground, i was talking to Janson when i saw the 2 birds, they were so happily attached that they didn’t even dodge my car! I drove through, i didn’t hear any sound of potential injury but i stopped when i looked into my rear mirror and saw a little brown motionless thingy on the road. I quickly reversed my car and parked next to it. To my horror, I killed ONE of the bird…and i saw the partner flying about next to its body…the dead bird had fresh blood coming out from its feathery body and its eye socket kinda popped out…i FELT SO GUILTY! I swore i could have cried in the middle of the road, as i was about to grab a tissue to pick up the lifeless body & place it aside, a van sped thru and squashed the little body! I WAS DEVASTATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aarrgh, imagine the pain it’s partner must be going through

Lover Bird : *Crying* One moment it was like love in the air, we were happily
kissing and courting when that BITCH came and knocked him DEAD!
                     Now im left all alone!***Wails……***

OH MAN!!!!!!!!! I am so so so so so sorry….thousand apologies, if its not enough , make it infinite then~

Well, life has to go one…..OK, so, Tao….yeah, we arrived at Tao, and this waiter said to Janson, hey, u look familiar…I saw Janson beaming so brightly and his smile turned into a smirk when the waiter said this ;

Waiter : Yo, bro, u look like Radiq….ya know Radiq? He’s cool man….

JAnson: * Nods head*

Waiter : The one from OAG, they’re a Sarawakian band…

Janson : *Still nods head in confusion*

Waiter : You donno? They’re so famous, the ones who always wears SONGKOK…

MeL : *** Bursts out LAUGHING*** Man, forgive him, he ain’t no S’wakian, he
wouldn’t know anyways. Anyways, can i have a First Kiss? *Reached out
my cheeks to the waiter *

Waiter : Whoa, no hard feelings man * Sayin to Janson*….

*** First Kiss is a strawberry yoghurty drink with a dash of banana flavor added into it…. NICE ***

Tao_copy_1

Tat’s him, acting all cocky and stuff, he says its freedom as he can’t do this back in KL….

Came dinner time and he said he wants only local delicacies….okay, then, so we went to the Open Air Market to have Kolo Mee, Siow Bee and Cha Kueh….he was so loving it~  After dinner, we headed to Mojo, introduced him to the gals there, he was diggin this stuff, i know! He was having a massive whole load of fun i could tell, and he was kissing the girls and made them fall in love with him ~ Oh puh-leeze Janson!!!!!!

* Having Tequila Pops*

—————   At home after the party ———————————–

I was getting ready to shower and wash up, when i used too much force and broke the whole shower knob! As in i pulled the whole knob out of the wall leaving a hole with water gushing out like a fireman’s hose! Before i knew it, it was RAGE AGAINST THE WATER! I was fighting it, man, the force of the water was so strong that it was pushing me, water was everywhere and my dress was all wet, hair in a wreck and make up all smudge, i looked TERRIBLE! And no way hose’ am i posing the pic up! To solve my problem, i had to shut down all water supply to the entire house by turning off the main pipe!

——————————- The next morning ————————————–

NO WATER TO BRUSH TEETH AND BATH FLUSH THE STINKING TOILET! After the whole battle with the gushing water the last night, i was so afraid to go near that freakin HOLE! Luckily we’ve got good water storage at home~ Plus, on a Sunday, no plumber was working and no shops were open to sell us an extra shower knob! Talk about episodes of uneventful events!

Anyways, tats not stopping me from stuffing Janson up….brought him to the Golden Arch for the Famous Sarawak Laksa…tat was brunch, later in the noon, we brought him to POP wave to show-off his talents and for a free concert…haha` Had the dinner set there , 2 hours from 6-8pm, its RM17 with good food~ Not bad! After that, we brought him to Petanak MArket for Kueh Chap (flat rice flour noodle with every spare part u can find in a pig, well almost )  but it wasn’t open yet, so we brought him to Kenyalang MArket instead and he had both Kueh Chap and also Cha Kueh ( flour cake fried to perfection with crispy pickled vege and eggs topped with salt and pepper , comes in a couple of flavors, spicy, sweet and  original ).

Mamam_copy_1

Janson : Why Kuching markets got so many food stalls wan ah? PEtanak MArket,
Kenyalang Market, Open air MArket? KL market no food stalls wan oh..

Well, coz its for convenience i guess, after shop shop shop, they eat , eat  and eat…tats why statistics shows that alot of East Malaysian are obese and have higher rates of Cholesterol level if compared to the West…. *ALamakZ*

After that, we bid farewell to Janson, all the best in ur singing career and we’ll make ur album HOttttt in Kuching, coz Fabiola sells pirated CD’s! No problemo!

*JAnson Sweats*

Bon Voyage , Superstar~

We enjoyed your company and you’re welcome anytime, Kuching will recieve u with open arms….

Halloween History & Origin

October 31st, 2007 by melissaksf

Hey ! It’s Halloween—time of the year that’s absolutely freakish and screamin fun. A time when the line between the world of the living and the world of the dead is the thinnest and you’re sure to feel the freak and scare with ghosts, goblins, witches and warewolves prowling all around—both in their selves and in costumes. Halloween is an occasion to let loose the naughtier sides in you—playing pranks, sprucing up in freaky costumes and scaring the wits out of your frenz & folks. The chill of rib-tickling thrill, a nip of spine-chilling jitters and a good fare of full-blooded scare (ooh, i like that) is at the heart of Halloween celebrations.

Now today’s Halloween isn’t the same as it was 2000 years ago. The history and origin of Halloween lie way back in centuries in the ancient Celtic New Year’s festival, Samhain. So much so that the customs of today’s Halloween are also rooted in the ancient customs of the Celts during Samhain, which was said to mark the end of Summer. Samhain, the Celtic New Year was celebrated every year on October 31—the day, which the Celts believed, was a day of the rise of the dead, when the deceased would wander the land to possess earthly souls. To keep these spirits at bay, the Celts dressed up as ghouls and monsters and put out all lights in their homes. With that, they ventured out as mischievous and wayward undoers willfully wantoning peace and property. The Celtic priests or Druids also built bonfires on this day and offered sacrifices. The idea behind all these was, of course, to scare away the spirits of the dead and avoid being “possessed” ! Now if you’re brainy enough, it won’t be hard for you to guess that the modern tradition of wearing costumes on Halloween traces back to this ancient Celtic practice !

The sinister attitudes of the Celts on Samhain toned down over the ages to give way to the less menacing attributes of today’s Halloween. The playfulness and fun side of Halloween was first brought to America by the Irish immigrants around 1840. Like for instance, the popular tradition of trick-or-treating on Halloween came from the Irish. This had been ‘gifted’ to the United States by the Irish immigrants who fled their country during the potato famine. The Irish celebration of Halloween or the Hallow E’en (evening of the Hallow), as it’s called in Ireland, means All Hallows Eve, or the night before the ‘All Hallows’. All Hallows Day is on November 1, and is also known as All Saint’s Day (a day to honor all the Catholic saints). ‘Hallow’ is an Old English word, meaning ‘saint’. November 2 is the All Soul’s Day—a day which honors all Christians who no longer live and were not saints. And the period of October 31 to November 2 is known as the Hallow Tide. Now, on All Hallows Eve or Halloween, the Irish beggars went asking for food or money from the rich. If refused, they were threatened to be destroyed by the evil spirits. And, of course, nobody wants to take a chance on Halloween. So soul-cakes or currant buns and candy bags chockablock with goodies were kept ready for the HalloweenDay.

Some even say that trick-or-treating sprang up in the Middle Ages and was called ‘souling’. On All Soul’s Day (November 2), Christians used to go begging from door to door for soul-cakes or the currant buns. In return, they prayed for the souls of the dead ancestors of the family who obliged. However, the term trick-or-treat gained popularity only as late as the late 1930s in the context of Halloween.

The very popular Jack O’ Lantern of today’s Halloween also has their origins in Ireland. As the legend goes, a notorious con-man named Jack once fooled Satan on climbing a tree and consequently trapped him by carving a cross in that tree trunk. He then extorted the Devil into agreeing never to tempt him again as a deal for getting him down. But, later when Jack died, not only were the doors of heaven closed to him because of his wrongdoings, Satan also denied him entry at hell due to the trickery Jack inflicted on him. However, Satan gave him a glowing ember or coal to light his way through earth. Jack put the glowing ember into a hollowed-out turnip and walked the land endlessly. This came to be known as the ‘Jack of the lantern’ or Jack O’ Lantern. Later, when this concept reached America, the turnip was replaced by pumpkins. Today, both on Samhain and Halloween, Jack O’ Lanterns are placed on the front steps of houses to scare away the ghosts. Quite a blazing thrill, isn’t it ?

Well when Halloween is in,  black cats *thank God i have white lil’ Snowy* will often cross your way or jump right before you from nowhere or give out a spine-chilling whine rending the silence of the night. Now Halloween may be a feline favorite, given the number of black cats you’ll spot during the Halloween days; but this association of black cats with the Halloween festival has its origin in the ancient Celtic beliefs. The Celts believed that the spirits of the dead shacked in animals (which were mostly black cats) during Samhain and Halloween. And therefore, people avoided meeting black cats on the way as it was believed to bring tough luck.* So be sure not to bump into one tonight frenz* Some even held the view that witches disguised as black cats and went about casting spells on Halloween night. However, black cats were convincingly considered faithful followers of witches at all times and have thus assumed an ominous role over the ages till date.

So far for the tidbits of Halloween history and origin, but there’s more to this fun day than just plain facts and beliefs. Halloween is an occasion to go wild and whacky, fun and freaky, to do crazy things, play pranks and get away with it. It’s an excuse to behave like a kid without having raised a brow ! Halloween is thus as much an adult’s favorite as it’s in rage with the kids. Nevertheless, there had been forces in history, and there still are, which try to abate the crazier and unrestrained aspects of Halloween. Not quite untrue that Halloween celebrations go over the top at times and fail to be in good taste and sense. Therefore, in some way, it calls forth the need to hold back the reins and keep it within limits. The fun and frenzy is acceptable as long as it stays within sensible bounds and does not cause hurt to anyone or anything. In this regard, it is convenient to note that Halloween is celebrated on October 30 instead of the usual October 31 if the latter falls on a Sunday. This is done to keep off all conflicts arising between the Church services and Halloween observances whatsoever.

I personaly think it’s like the English version of the Chinese Lunar month, xcept that it’s more fun den Freaky…So, ppl, im heading to Mojo tonight…wat ru all waiting for? Put on ur party "claws, paws"….vampire fangs and devil horns and Join me tonight there~

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL! *Shrieks like a witch*…*cough cough*
